The New York State Department of Education has appointed a “Distinguished Educator” to help break the Rochester City School District out of its cycle of low student performance.
State Education Commissioner Mary Ellen Elia announced that Kenneth Eastwood, a former superintendent of schools in Oswego and in Middletown, will help the Rochester schools better educate and support their students. He begins on April 25th, and will work alongside Superintendent Barbara Deane-Williams.
Commissioner Elia says the city schools face what she calls a “myriad of issues” that lead to poor student learning. The state says Eastwood has the knowledge and experience to turn things around in Rochester.
