The former Sahlen’s Stadium at 460 Oak Street will be upgraded and converted into a youth sports training facility and sports complex, thanks to a grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation.
The $460,000 grant will make the former soccer stadium available for various sporting and community events, and it will renovate the adjacent 25,000 square foot building into an indoor training facility. Planners say the City School District will use it for a variety of sports teams, community health and fitness projects and a gym for city residents.
Mayor Lovely Warren says it will be the only facility of its kind in the city. She says the Rochester Community Sports Complex will be used from April through December for school and community sporting events.
