As Rochester fire crews were fighting an earlier fire on Locust Street, they received a call at 9:48 Wednesday night for a report of a burning two-story apartment building on St. Paul Street across town.

The Fire Department says firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the front door of the building. They called a second alarm within minutes because of a possibility that people could be trapped inside. They later learned everyone had escaped before the fire crews got there.

One person was taken to the hospital with an ankle injury and smoke inhalation. Four apartments were heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water. The Red Cross was assisting at least six adults and two children with temporary housing, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
