The Golisano Foundation says a record number of organizations will join its campaign this week — “Spread the Word to End the R-Word.”
They’re asking people to pledge not the use the words “retard” or “retarded” to describe the developmentally disabled. They find the word offensive and March 1st is a day specially dedicated to eliminating its use.
Supporting the campaign is a list of companies and organizations running the alphabet from AADMD to the YMCA. The Rochester movement against the R word is the largest for a single region in the country.
City Hall kicked it off with a press conference led by Mayor Lovely Warren this morning.
