The New York State DOT says the Spencerport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal reopens Friday evening. The bridge has been closed for 16 months of construction in a major rehab project.
During the construction, the bridge had to be locked into the “up” position. The bridge dates from 1914 and was reconstructed under a plan to preserve the state’s historic canal structures. Several of those 100-year-old-plus structures are in Monroe County.
The Route 259 lift bridge has new flooring, new steel work and re-aligned approaches to improve the vision of oncoming traffic.
