A Rochester special education teacher has resigned after the Democrat and Chronicle reported that he was hired despite a conviction for abusing special education students in Las Vegas.

The Rochester City School District’s chief of human resources, Harry Kennedy, says Teacher James Doran passed a state background check and had disclosed the Las Vegas incident.  He was hired at School #19 in September.

.

Doran had reportedly been convicted in Las Vegas on one count of misdemeanor battery. He was given a suspended sentence and was ordered to get counseling.
