A Rochester special education teacher has resigned after the Democrat and Chronicle reported that he was hired despite a conviction for abusing special education students in Las Vegas.
The Rochester City School District’s chief of human resources, Harry Kennedy, says Teacher James Doran passed a state background check and had disclosed the Las Vegas incident. He was hired at School #19 in September.

Doran had reportedly been convicted in Las Vegas on one count of misdemeanor battery. He was given a suspended sentence and was ordered to get counseling.
Chief Communications Officer Carlos Garcia says Doran is not accused of doing anything wrong while employed with the district.
