More than 400 people cheered inside the Workers United Hall on East Avenue Sunday afternoon, as Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and others led a rally in favor of keeping the Affordable Care Act.
Congress began passing legislation Friday to repeal President Obama’s health insurance program. More than 20 million people were added to the ranks of the insured through the program. Slaughter told the rally she doesn’t know why there’s a certain group of citizens that doesn’t want those people to have coverage.
Slaughter asked people including University of Rochester medical students, doctors and people covered under the law to speak. Rallies of the same sort took place all over the country on Sunday.
