Congresswoman Louise Slaughter says she’s fighting part of President Trump’s budget that would defund the public-private clean energy manufacturing institute led by the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The Fairport Democrat pushed to get the Department of Energy program for RIT, but the president’s budget eliminates the funding for it and three similar facilities across the country.
The federal grant to the RIT program was $70 million, matched with an equal amount of local money. Slaughter says that’s a boost to the Rochester economy that will be lost if the project doesn’t go forward.
