Rochester Democrat Louise Slaughter was in complete disagreement with the Republican health bill as as you would expect from the person who introduced President Obama’s Affordable Care Act in the house in 2009.
Slaughter says once voters realize the new act leaves them worse off, Republicans who passed the Obamacare repeal by a four-vote margin will regret it on election day. Slaughter says she’s never seen so many people commit political suicide at one time. She also says the real purpose of the Republican health bill is to cut $800 billion out of Medicaid so President Trump can deliver his promised tax cuts.
Slaughter and Republican John Katko voted against the bill. The other Rochester-area representatives, Tom Reed and Chris Collins, voted “yes.” Collins says President Trump is right and the bill will reduce costs, increase competition and improve access to health insurance.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, says the GOP bill is “going nowhere” in the senate.
