Former Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary launched a campaign for Congress Thursday morning, running as a Republican for the 25th District Seat now held by Democrat Joe Morelle.

Singletary was courted for about a year by area Republicans who convinced him to switch parties and run for Congress as a Republican. In his first campaign outing, he expressed conservative principals and opposition to President Joe Biden’s Progressive agenda.

He also pledged to oppose “Defund the Police” efforts and said his conversations with people across Rochester neighborhoods have convinced him a majority oppose reducing the numbers of officers on the job.

Singletary was Rochester police chief before he was fired by Mayor Lovely Warren, who blamed him for withholding information from her about the death of Daniel Prude. Singletary said in a deposition that on the contrary, he was ordered to lie about the incident by the Mayor and refused.
