They did it indoors, but Rochester and State Officials joined with the WinnDevelopment this week in a ceremonial groundbreaking for what they’re now calling “Sibley Square,” the renovation of the Sibley Building on Main Street.

The $200 million renovation project is converting the former department store and its office tower into nearly 100 luxury condos, plus retail and office space. It’s all centered around the Sibley’s atrium and the clock where people have met downtown for more than 100 years.

Crews have been working for the past week peeling off the old window coverings that hid the mostly empty interior and getting ready for construction to begin.
