The Mavericks return to Rochester for the battle of minor league goliaths.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester RazorSharks greatest rival, the Kentucky Mavericks, come to town for a 2 pm tipoff on Monday at the Blue Cross Arena on Kids’ Day.

Rochester (8-1) lost its first game of the season in Premier Basketball League action to the Mavericks (7-1) last Sunday in Owensboro, KY. The Sharks will be looking to avenge that defeat.

Tensions ran high in their first meeting, even though Kentucky controlled the game from tipoff to finish. It was not the Sharks best performance, by any means, but they did not play poorly; the Mavs simply got to the basket and were able to finish at the rim more consistently.

Both teams put up good statistics in game one, but Kentucky edged out Rochester in just about every category. The Sharks were outshot 42% to 35%, outrebounded 59 to 46, making it difficult to close large scoring gap created in the first quarter. The 40 points given up in the first 12 minutes was the major problem for Rochester, as they trailed by 21 points heading into quarter two.

It was just too large of a deficit to make up against a powerhouse team like Kentucky. Also, it marked the second game in two nights after the Sharks overcame a 21-point deficit to beat the Ohip Bootleggers the previous night in Columbus.

The starting five for Kentucky each finished in the double digits in points and each had at least 7 rebounds.

Rochester’s Corey Allmond led the game with 27 points, and Sidney Holmes came off the bench to notch a game-high 13 rebounds.

Tickets for the game now are on sale at the Blue Cross Arena box office. It’s also Kids’ Day, so everyone 18 years old and under will be granted FREE admission.
