Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter is bringing together area law enforcement, mental health, community outreach and other agencies in a panel he hopes will head off violent incidents before they happen.
In forming what he calls ROCTAC, Baxter is taking inspiration from the murder of seven-year-old Hunter Resch, who was killed by his despondent father in 2010 when Baxter was Police Chief in Greece. Baxter says everyone followed their procedures, but someone must have known the boy’s father was a potential threat.
ROCTAC has already been operating for about a month, and has reviewed three cases, steering resources to head off a potential incident.
