Severe thunderstorms missed Rochester and the northern suburbs on Sunday afternoon, but zeroed in on Ontario, Livingston and Wyoming Counties south of the city.
The Thruway was the dividing line between cloudy skies and severe weather. There was flash flooding around Canandaigua because of heavy thunderstorms, and Wyoming County residents got photos of a funnel cloud that appeared in their skies.
The National Weather Service says it talked with Wyoming County officials and found no reports of damage, so it classified the event as a funnel cloud rather than a tornado. But tornado warnings were issued for the region Sunday afternoon.
