A service dog was trapped and killed Wednesday afternoon in a house fire at 165 Christian Avenue in Rochester.

The Rochester Fire Department says they were called at a quarter-to-5:00 for the house fire. They found heavy smoke and flame coming from the one-and-a-half story home and had to cut the roof open for ventilation while firefighters attacked the flames with handlines.

All occupants except the service dog made it out of the fire. The cause is currently under investigation.
