Two children in the back seat of a minivan were killed on Thursday when a pickup truck slammed into the rear of their vehicle on the State Thruway at the Junius Ponds Rest Area in Seneca County.
State Police say traffic was slowing down for a lane closure when the pickup driver failed to slow down at struck the van, driving it into a passenger car and shoving the car in turn into a tractor-trailer rig. The children in the minivan’s rear seat were killed in spite of their seatbelts. The driver and front seat passenger were seriously injured and airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Names have not yet been released, and troopers say charges are pending.
