United States Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have pledged to fight to keep strong regulations that were imposed on regional airlines after the Flight 3407 crash eight years ago outside Buffalo.
Fifty people were killed when the Continental Connection flight rolled over and crashed in Clarence on its approach to the Buffalo airport. The crash was attributed to an under-trained and exhausted flight crew working for Colgan Air, the operators of the flight.
The Families of Flight 3407 lobbied intensively and won strict limits on crew flight time, rest hours and training requirements for commuter airlines. They need to be reauthorized in an upcoming bill.
