United States Senator Charles Schumer (D, NY) was in Rochester today, drumming up support to put a “Buy American Steel” provision back into the Senate’s Water Resources Development Act.
At Klein Steel, the New York Democrat said the Senate stripped the Buy America provision from the bill that funds long term water and sewer infrastructure projects. Buy America will expire next year, and Schumer says that will pull the rug out from under U.S. Steel companies, allowing foreign producers to undercut them.
Schumer, who will be the Senate’s top Democrat in January, wants to reinstate the provision and make it permanent for all infrastructure developments.
