United States Senator Chuck Schumer of New York introduced Vice-President Mike Pence before he was sworn in this morning in Washington, DC, saying “today, we celebrate the peaceful transfer of power.”
The New York Democrat and Senate Minority Leader says this is one of the things that make America, America. Schumer said Americans have always been hardworking and decent people, whether born here or newly arrived. He said we are all exceptional in our fierce devotion to our nation.
Senator Schumer read from the letter of Civil War Volunteer Major Sullivan Ballou of Rhode Island, saying it’s because of sacrifices like his that “we stand in the full blessing of Liberty in the greatest nation on earth.”
