An underwater recovery team from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and the State Police have located the body of Dylan Giangregorio in Letchworth State Park, ending that chapter of the tragic story affecting a local family.
State Police say the nine-year-old boy was located in the Genesee River below the lower falls of Letchworth late on Tuesday afternoon. His body has been taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office. The body of Dylan’s six-year-old brother, Preston, was recovered on Sunday.
Both boys were among seven members of a Brockport-area family that were swept over the falls on Saturday when something went wrong while they were wading in the river. State Park Police say someone slipped and lost their footing. That triggered a “ripple effect” that caused everyone to go over the brink.
Two adults and three girls were saved from the river on Saturday.
Police have not yet released the family’s names. They say emergency responders worked diligently to locate the victims and they offer their sympathies to the family and friends of both boys.
