Search crews resumed work this morning, trying to find the second of two young boys believed to have drowned over the weekend when they were swept over the lower falls of Letchworth State Park.

State Parks Police said yesterday they recovered the body of one boy from the Genesee River below the falls. Divers went into the water and helicopters flew passes above the gorge looking for the second victim today.

Seven members of an extended family went over the falls Saturday evening. Police say they had gotten off the marked trails and waded into the river above the falls when one slipped on the rocks. That caused what police called a “ripple effect” that sent everyone over the edge. Two adults and three girls were rescued Saturday evening and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Park police are asking anyone with information that could help to call 585-658-4692.
