Authorities continue searching the Lower Falls area of Letchworth State Park in Wyoming County Sunday after a group of people fell into the Genesee River while apparently hiking off the trails.
New York Park Police say at least two people are still missing and a full-scale search by air and water resumed at daybreak Sunday. The Lower Falls section of the park remains closed while the search continues.
Four people were rescued last night and taken to Strong Memorial and other area hospitals. Police say none had life-threatening injuries.
Park Police say they were called about 6:30 Saturday evening for a report of people in trouble at the falls. They say it’s all-too-common for accidents to happen there when people go off the marked trails.
No details of how the accident happened have been released yet. They say it’s still being investigated.
