Divers with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Scuba unit resumed their search Friday morning for a 40-year-old Webster man, believed to be missing in Irondequoit Bay. Department officials say they believe this is now a recovery effort.

Shawn Ross was in a boat with friends when he climbed out and went wading on a sandbar not far from shore on Thursday evening. His friend and a family member in the boat lost sight of him and called 911. A land, air and water search ensued. Deputies, State and Webster Police and West Webster firefighters joined in the search.

Deputies say the water suddenly gets as much as 60 feet deep beyond the shallows where Ross was wading.

Anyone with information about Ross’s whereabouts is asked to please call 911.
