Volunteers are searching around a Sodus farm for a seventh straight day, looking for some sign of a missing toddler.
Police say they believe this is a recovery operation as they continue the search for 14-month-old Owen Hidalgo-Calderon. The body of his mother, 18-year-old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon, was found partially buried on the Joy Road Farm last week. Since then, hundreds of volunteers have mounted a grid search of some 600 acres without finding the boy.
The Amber Alert for the missing boy was canceled Tuesday morning, but the ground search continues.
Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts said there’s evidence the child will be found in the area of the farm, but he didn’t specify what it was.
Selena Hidalgo-Calderon’s boyfriend, Alberto Reyes, has been charged with evidence tampering after admitting that he partially buried her body on the farm. So far he hasn’t been charged with any other crimes, but the investigation continues. Reyes is a twice-deported illegal alien, and is also being held on an immigration detainer.
