A California sea lion pup has been born at the seneca Park Zoo, representing a turnaround after three of the zoo’s sea lions died over the last year.

An investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums found the deaths were unrelated and not caused by environmental conditions at the zoo’s Rocky Coasts exhibit.

The pup was born to Lily, and eight-year-old sea lion. The gender will be determined by zoo staff as it develops. Right now, Lily is too protective for them to get a good look at it.
