Monroe County’s Seneca Park Zoo says its seven-year-old California sea lion, Marina, has died of unknown causes.
Zoo Director Larry Sorel says Marina was mother to Sunny and PJ at the Rocky Coasts exhibit. She appeared to have a seizure while on the exhibit Thursday and died suddenly. A necropsy is being performed to determine what happened to her. The zoo staff is working closely with newborn Sunny to make sure she stays healthy.
The zoo also says the three-year-old Bornean orangutan, Bella, suffered an injury in her habitat during off hours and has undergone surgery. She’s being monitored by veterinary staff.
