The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear challenges against the NY SAFE Act and a similar assault weapons law passed in Connecticut after Newtown Elementary School massacre in 2012.
NY SAFE bars the purchase of some kinds of semi-automatic rifles and that are deemed to be assault weapons. It requires people who have those firearms now to register them with the State Police. It also blocks sale of high-capacity magazines for such weapons and limits how many rounds of ammunition may be loaded.
Both petitions from gun rights advocates were denied without comment.
