On the first day of Summer, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer is calling on the Senate to pass bipartisan legislation that would allow summer camps and children’s organizations to access federal sex offender background checks.

The New York Democrat says these organizations being unable to view the FBI database amounts to a major hole in federal law. Schumer says most of New York’s

summer camps, daycare centers and settlement houses can only see New York State’s criminal database, which leaves them unaware of any crimes that were committed out of state.
