Governor Cuomo and Senator Chuck Schumer have announced a deal to save the troubled Kraft-Heinz dairy plant in Steuben County.

The plant in Campbell is a familiar sight to travelers up and down I-390 and the Southern Tier Expressway. It will be bought by the Upstate Niagara dairy farmer  cooperative. About half of the 330 workers who were due to be laid off if the plant closed will keep their jobs.

Upstate Niagara has agreed to invest $10 million in modernizing the plant’s machinery. Schumer and Cuomo say they pushed to save as many jobs as possible, and they say the plant will be around for years to come.
