Greece, Rochester, both Irondequoits and most area public and private schools are closed Wednesday as the storm continues.  Courts across the region will be closed Wednesday. So will city rec centers and libraries.

The Winter Storm Warning continues until 8:00 Wednesday evening, and it looks like we’re on track for about 20 inches of snow.

While the snow kept falling, utility crews kept working on the last RG&E power outages from the windstorm last week. Last night they got it down to 600, including restoring power to three houses in an Irondequoit neighborhood that failed to go back on when the rest of the circuit was energized. They had a broken 4,000 volt power line behind their homes.

Meanwhile, Long Pond Road in Greece remains blocked near Latta Road. It’s no longer downed wires causing the problem. Repair crews replacing the downed utility poles to get power back on accidentally cut a major telephone cable in four places.

Frontier Communications has a crew working to identify and splice 2,400 wires in that cable to clear the breaks and get the landlines and internet back on.
