Lots of school districts are closing tomorrow because of the  forecast for extremely cold wind chills.  We’re expecting wind chills of 20-to-30 below for Friday into Saturday morning.

The Rochester City School District has decided to close all schools tomorrow, along with a number of other districts. In the suburbs, Greece Central and Brighton will be closed, so will both East and West Irondequoit, Rush Henrietta, Pittsford Central and Penfield. Many other districts are as well.

Monroe Community College and Finger Lakes Community College have also closed.

The City of Rochester says it’s opening six of its recreation centers for extended hours as warming centers Friday because of the extreme cold coming this weekend.

Six of the centers will have extended hours from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday when city schools are closed. They’ll also be serving breakfast and lunch. Those are Adams Street, Frederick Douglass on South Avenue, Flint Street, Thomas P. Ryan on Webster Avenue, the School 17 center and the Gantt Center.

Additionally, the Gantt R-Center on North Street will be open as a warming center Saturday from 10 am to 7:30 pm.

City residents are asked to call 311 if they lose heat or want someone to check on a neighbor or family member who might need help.
