The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a text about a threat to the Pittsford Central School District was a hoax.
The sheriff says earlier this week, two students began texting each other about a made-up school threat while they were on a school trip to New York City. They were apparently unaware that their conversation was air-dropping to other nearby phones. Several Pittsford-Mendon High School students saw the messages and grew concerned.
The sheriff’s office was contacted, and they notified the Pittsford Central School District. Deputies interviewed the juvenile who originally sent the message and that student’s parents. A search turned up no weapons or evidence of an actual threat.
The matter was turned over to the school district to be handled by school discipline. No charges were filed.
