The superintendent of the Rochester City School District says he’s doubtful teacher contract concessions can come in time before a planned vote on teacher layoffs Thursday night.
Terry Dade said on Tuesday that he met with the leadership team of the Rochester Teachers Association, which is running proposed concessions through their administrative process. Dade says he doesn’t believe that process can be completed before the vote, and he’s unwilling to delay it while the district’s deficit problem grows.
Parents and teachers marched through downtown Rochester to the school district building Tuesday night, and spoke it protest of the impending teacher cuts. More than 150 stand to be laid off in an effort to cut $10 million of the ballooning shortfall.
