New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is among half-a-dozen state attorneys general urging that Senator Jeff Sessions not be named U.S. Attorney General.

Sessions is President-Elect Trump’s choice for the nation’s top legal officer. His confirmation is now before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Schneiderman is joining the attorneys general of Maryland, Oregon, Massachusetts, the District of Columbia and Hawaii in seeking rejection of the senator’s nomination on grounds that he has not been a civil rights supporter in the past and opposed criminal justice reforms that had bipartisan support.
