New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has written to the “other two” of the big three credit reporting agencies, asking them to spell out the security measures they have in place to prevent a data breach.

Schneiderman’s office says the Attorney General wants to make sure Experian and TransUnion aren’t as vulnerable to hackers as was Equifax. Hackers breached their security and made off with personal information of some 143 million Americans, including eight million New Yorkers. That makes those people vulnerable to bank fraud and a host of other identity theft crimes.

Schneiderman also wants to know if Experian and TransUnion have beefed up security since the Equifax breach and how they plan to keep ahead of the criminals in the future.
