Soccer returns to Frontier Field since 2005

The Western New York Flash edged the Seattle Reign FC, 3-2, on Saturday night at Frontier Field. The City of Rochester had booked Rhinos Stadium for this evening, thus the game being played at Frontier Field.

Flash captain Abby Erceg scored in the 39th and 45th minute to pace the Flash. Lynn Williams netted the eventual game-winner in the 83rd minute that gave WNY a 3-1 lead.

Seattle scored in the final stoppage time after taking a 1-0 on a goal in the 23rd minute.

The Reign starting goalie Haley Kopmeyer suffered an ankle injury in the 39th minute and was on the ground when Exces headed the ball into the left upper corner of the net to tie the game 1-1.

The Flash improved their record to 2-5-3 all-time against the Reign.

Darin Mastroianni led off the game with a single, took second on a passed ball, and advanced to third on a groundout. Jorge Polanco lined a RBI single to right field for the Wings only run of the game.

The Yankees scored the only 2 runs they would need in the second off Rochester starter Logan Darnell (8-8).

Rochester (51-40) dropped another game behind International League North Division leader Scranton/WB (56-34) and now trail the Yankees by 5.5 games.

The series concludes on Sunday before the start of the 3-day IL All-Star break on Monday.

Rhinos take on Orlando City B on Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Rochester Rhinos will be facing Orlando City B at home on Sunday, July 10. This match up will be a redemption match for the Rhinos to gain victory against Orlando after losing to them 2-1 at the Titan Soccer Complex back in May.

The Rhinos defeated FC Cincinnati, 2-1, at home this past Wednesday night in a hard fought battle on the field. The Rhinos are looking to restart their undefeated streak home, they are currently 2-0 with the wins against FC Cincinnati and Pittsburgh Riverhounds over the past two weeks. The team is consistently playing strong and appears to have regained some of their early season momentum.

Rochester is 7-4-4 while Orlando is 6-6-4 on the season.
