Buffalo’s Ryan O’Reilly and Team Cananda win the World Cup of Hockey with a sweep of Team Europe.
Matt Moulson’s shootout goal was the lone tally in the game to propel the Buffalo Sabres to a 1-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the preseason game on Thursday night in St. Catherines, Ontario.
The Sabres had several power play opportunities, including a 5-on-3, but could not score.
The Nylander brothers squared off against one another for the first time. Alexander (Buffalo) and William (Toronto) have spent their lives competing at just about everything, from tennis to ping pong to golf and so on. But they’ve never had a chance to square off at their best sport, hockey, other than in practices or on the floor playing knee hockey.
Each brother was given the opportunity to score in the shootout, but both were stopped by the opposing goalies.
Buffalo netminder Anders Nilsson played the entire game in posting the shutout.
The win was the second straight in the preseason for the Sabres.
