BUFFALO, N.Y. — Evander Kane scored two goals, and Robin Lehner made 24 saves to help the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-1 win against the Washington Capitals at KeyBank Center on Tuesday.
Benoit Pouliot scored the game-winning goal at 3:22 of the third period. He skated end to end and beat goalie Philipp Grubauer high to the glove side to put the Sabres ahead 2-1.
Kane scored an empty-net goal with 20 seconds left to make it 3-1.
Kane gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead at 2:39 of the second period. He received a pass from Jack Eichel in front of the net and shot the puck past Grubauer.
The Sabres (5-8-2) have won two of their past three games. The Capitals (8-7-1) lost for the first time in four games and are 0-4-0 in the second of back-to-back games this season; they defeated the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 in overtime Monday.
Alex Ovechkin tied it 1-1 at 17:44 of the second period. He received a pass from Devante Smith-Pelly and took a wrist shot that beat Lehner for his 13th goal, second in the NHL behind Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (14). Ovechkin has scored a goal in three straight games.
Grubauer made 29 saves.

Sabres recall defenseman Redmond
The Sabres on Tuesday announced the team has recalled defenseman Zach Redmond from the Rochester Americans (AHL).
Redmond (29, 6-foot-2, 212 lbs.) joins the Sabres for the second time this season after appearing in two games for the team following a recall on Oct. 21. With five points (1+4) through seven AHL games in 2017-18, the defenseman ranks fourth among all Rochester skaters with .71 points per game.
Selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the seventh round (184th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Redmond has now appeared in parts of six NHL seasons, totaling 38 points (9+29) and a plus-10 rating in 132 games with the Sabres, the Montreal Canadiens, the Colorado Avalanche and the Winnipeg Jets. The Traverse City, Michigan native has recorded 105 points (30+75) in 197 career regular-season AHL games, adding 19 points (4+15) in 35 AHL postseason contests.
In a corresponding move, the Sabres placed forward Justin Bailey on injured reserve.
