The Buffalo Sabres announced this afternoon they’ve traded defenseman Taylor Fedun to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a conditional 2020 seventh-round pick.

If Fedun plays 25 regular season or playoff games with the Stars this season, the Sabres will get a draft pick in the trade.

The 30-year-old defender played 34 games for the Sabres over the past two seasons and recorded eight points over that stretch. He’s spent the majority of his time with the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Due to the log jam on the blue line this season in Rochester, he’s been a healthy scratch recently. This move gives the Sabres the opportunity to play young guys like Brandon Hickey and gives Fedun the chance to go somewhere that he can be in the lineup on a consistent basis.

Fedun becomes a free agent at the end of the season when he completes his recent two-year, two-way contract he signed in 2017 with the Sabres.

The Sabres now give themselves a little more breathing room going from 49 contracts to 48 with this move.
