If Taylor Fedun dresses for the Dallas Stars tonight the Sabres will receive a 7th-round pick in 2020.

You may have forgotten about it, but the Buffalo Sabres are about to make good on that Taylor Fedun trade from earlier this season. If the 30-year-old defenseman dresses for the Dallas Stars tonight, as expected, the condition will be met on the draft pick compensation the Sabres received in return.

The Sabres moved Fedun to the Stars back on Nov. 10 in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2020. The condition was that if Fedun played at least 25 regular season or playoff games with the Stars, the Sabres would get the pick. If not, no compensation would be given.

At the time, it seemed unlikely this condition would be met as the veteran defender was assigned to the AHL once the trade was completed. However, a little over two months later, Fedun, is set to play in his 25th game for the Stars tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.

It’s only a seventh rounder, but an asset is an asset, right?
