BUFFALO, N.Y. — Rick Nash did not have a point in his Boston Bruins debut, and Evan Rodrigues had a goal and an assist to help the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-1 win at KeyBank Center on Sunday.
Nash was acquired in a trade from the New York Rangers earlier Sunday and had five shots on goal, but the Bruins (37-15-8) remained one point behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for second place in the Atlantic Division.
Anton Khudobin made 20 saves for Boston, which has lost its past two games.
Rodrigues had an assist on Kyle Okposo’s power-play goal at 16:31 of the first period that gave Buffalo (19-33-11) a 2-0 lead.
After Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy made it 2-1 at 3:35 of the second, Rodrigues made it 3-1 at 7:50 with his fifth goal.
Victor Antipin had two assists and Chad Johnson made 34 saves for the Sabres, who have won two of their past three games.
Benoit Pouliot gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead at 14:26 of the first period when he scored his 12th goal of the season on a rebound.
Marco Scandella made it 4-1 at 3:22 of the third period with a wrist shot for his fourth goal.
