The Buffalo Sabres announced Wednesday afternoon they’ve recalled 22-year-old Swedish defenseman Lawrence Pilut from the Rochester Americans.

Marco Scandella will miss tonight’s game with a foot injury he suffered in the game Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. To make room for Pilut the Sabres placed forward Patrik Berglund on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.

Pilut has caught the eye of fans since he showcased his skills during the preseason. He’s continued his strong play into his first North American pro season with the Amerks.

He has 3 goals and 22 points in 15 games this season in the AHL, which has him tied for the lead in points in the entire league.

Phil Housley indicated that Nathan Beaulieu would enter the lineup in place of Scandella, but we’ll see if this changes his plans. The Sabres have 3 games in 4 nights (Friday against Montreal and Saturday in Detroit), so we’ll see if he makes his way into the lineup during this call up.
