Buffalo was back on the ice for practice at HarborCenter on this Halloween morning. Their next game is Thursday night in Arizona, which opens up a two-game road trip against Western Conference opponents. They’ll play Dallas on Saturday.
Here’s what you need to know.
The Sabres used Sunday’s practice as an opportunity to reset. Saturday’s game against the Sharks (a 3-2 loss), wrapped up a three-game week that included a back-to-back set.
Coach Phil Housley thought the team had a good practice on Friday, and said it carried over to the strong effort against the Sharks. It’s a correlation the coach has noticed throughout the season, and an effect the Sabres will look to replicate heading into their matchup with Arizona.
“Our practices have a lot of meaning because we’re trying to dig ourselves out of a hole and trying to work on areas of our game where we have to improve,” Housley said. “I think overall our compete has to rise a little bit in practice because that’s where it starts … It just seems that when we’ve had had really good practices and paid attention to details, it’s gone into games where we’ve had success.”
Fedun’s back up
The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has recalled defenseman Taylor Fedun from the Rochester Americans.
Fedun joins the Sabres for his second recall after posting one assist and a plus-1 rating in two games during earlier this season. He appeared in 27 NHL games during the 2016-17 campaign, recording a career-high seven points (0+7). He also led Sabres defensemen in assists per 60 (1.16) and his 5-on-5 shot attempts percentage (53.7%) ranked 23rd among all NHL defensemen with more than five games played in 2016-17.
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Fedun has two assists in four games with the Americans this season after signing a two-year contract extension with the Sabres in June. In 296 regular-season games throughout his six AHL seasons, he has recorded 157 points (37+120) and a plus-19 rating, adding eight points (4+4) in 28 playoff games.
Yesterday afternoon, they assigned Zach Redmond to Rochester.
