BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The New York Islanders extended the Buffalo Sabres winless streak to 4 games with a 5-1 victory on Friday night.

The Isles avenged a 3-2 overtime loss to the Sabres last Friday night.

Zemgus Girgensons scored late in the third period for Buffalo to avert the shutout. Zach Bogosian and Sam Reinhart drew assists on the play.

Greece native and team captain Brian Gionta paced the Sabres with 4 shots on goal.

Andres Nilsson made 27 saves in goal for Buffalo (12-13-8).

Spencerport native Shane Prince picked up his 7th assist of the season on the Isles first goal in the opening period.

The Sabres start their Christmas break now and are off until Tuesday when they travel to Detroit to take on the Red Wings.
