Jeff Skinner scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 3-2 preseason win against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Justin Bailey scored a shorthanded goal for Buffalo to tie the game in the third period. Evander Kane netted the first goal in the second period for the Sabres.
Buffalo forward Ryan O’Reilly left the game with a lower-body injury. It was his first preseason game since playing for Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey 2016.
Roland McKeown and Elias Lindholm scored to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead.
Linus Ullmark went the distance in goal for Buffalo.
