Buffalo’s inability to score goals costs the Sabres once again.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Washington Capitals posted a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night at the KeyBank Center.
The Caps forged ahead early in the second period on a goal by T.J. Oshie. They added a power play tally for a 2-0 margin.
The Sabres (10-11-6) finally got on the scoreboard with about 8 minutes left in the third stanza on a power play goal from Kyle Okposo. Rasmus Ristolainen and Ryan O’Reilly picked up assists on the goal.
However, an interference call on Greece native Brian Gionta resulted in a power play goal for Washington as the Capitals quickly regained their 2-goal advantage.
The Caps iced the game away with an empty net tally when Sabres coach Dan Bylsma pulled goalie Robin Lehner in favor of a sixth attacker. Lehner finished with 25 saves.
Evander Kane led Buffalo with 5 shots on goal as Ristolainen had 4 shots.
