Buffalo scores in the first period as the Devils tie it in the third to force overtime.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres suffered another heartbreaking defeat as they fall to the visiting New Jersey Devils, 2-1, in overtime on Friday night at KeyBank Center.

Matt Moulson gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead in the first period off assists from Kyle Okposo and Ryan O’Reilly, who returned to the Buffalo lineup following an injury.

However, the Devils tied the game in the third period before netting the game-winner past goalie Anders Nilsson, who finished with 41 saves for Buffalo.

Greece native and team captain Brian Gionta and Marcus Foligno paced the Sabres with 4 shots-on-goal each.

*NOTES — The Sabres recalled defenseman Justin Falk from the Rochester Americans on Friday. Falk (28, 6-foot-5, 222 lbs.) joins the Sabres for his first recall of the season after signing with the team as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2016. The Snowflake, Manitoba native has a plus-3 rating in nine games for Rochester this season. In 171 career NHL games, Falk recorded 23 points (2+21) and 151 penalty minutes. Falk played against the Devils as forward Cole Schneider, who recently was called up, was a healthy scratch.
