TORONTO, ONT. — Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Eichel made history with his 5-assist performance in Nashville on Saturday night. On Monday, he was recognized for his accomplishments.

Eichel was named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week on Monday after tallying eight points (3+5) in three games and leading the Sabres to a pair of road wins in Toronto and Nashville. He scored two goals, including the game-winner, against the Maple Leafs last Monday and then scored his career-high 25th goal against Detroit on Wednesday.

He became just the fourth Sabre to record five assists in a game against Nashville, joining elite company in Gilbert Perreault, Pat LaFontaine and Dale Hawerchuk. He became the first Sabre to score five points in a game since Thomas Vanek on Jan. 31, 2013.

Eichel has now set career-highs in assists (37) and points (62) in a season. He leads the Sabres in both categories despite missing 15 games to a high-ankle sprain. Eichel has also set new personal bests in multi-point games (18), even-strength goals (22) and primary points (27) at 5-on-5 play.

This is Eichel’s second time being named a Star of the Week by the NHL this season, having previously received first-star honors on Jan. 28.
