The Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday announced the team has signed forward C.J. Smith to a 2-year contract with an AAV of $700,000.

Smith (24, 5-foot-10, 184 lbs.) recorded 58 points (28+30) in 62 games for the Rochester Americans in 2018-19, ranking second on the team in goals and points and third in assists. He also contributed 4 game-winning goals and led all Amerks skaters with a plus-26 rating.

Signed by Buffalo as a free agent in March 2017, Smith also scored his first 2 NHL goals during the 2018-19 season. The Des Moines, Iowa native has recorded 3 points (2+1) in 13 career NHL games and 102 points (45+57) in 119 career AHL contests. In his first full professional season in 2017-18, Smith was selected as the Amerks’ Rookie of the Year and earned MVP honors at the 2018 AHL All-Star Challenge.
