The Buffalo Sabres announced Thursday morning that they have assigned forward Tage Thompson to the Rochester Americans.
Thompson, 21, has struggled on-and-off throughout the duration of his first season with the Sabres.
In 65 games this year, Thompson has tallied 12 points (7 goals, 5 assists) but has also gone goalless in his last 23 appearances.
This move feels long overdue but it became apparent that the organization wanted to give Thompson every opportunity possible, after coming over and arguably being the center piece in the Ryan O’Reilly trade last offseason.
With 8 games left in the regular season, Thompson heading to Rochester gives him the ability to mix himself in right before the Americans begin their latest run for the Calder Cup.
In 46 career AHL games, with the Chicago Wolves and San Antonio Rampage, Thompson has amassed 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists).
